| Job Overview |
As a core member of the Design for Production Group, you will be in charge of directing firmware development from the early stages to the deployment in production. This requires understanding the existing robot's circuit diagrams and collaborating with mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, and software engineers to ensure the robot operates accurately and swiftly according to specifications while maintaining safety. Additionally, as the team leader for firmware engineers, you will be responsible for conducting code reviews, providing technical support and guidance, determining best practices and upholding internal standards, while assisting with the career development of junior engineers. |
| Key Responsibilities |
• Understanding and maintaining legacy and current code base for several robots • Leading a small size team (3-4 people), including work allocation • Designing the firmware architecture for new components or projects and writing clear specifications for all the code to be written • Writing reliable and readable code, and unit tests • Review the work (code, specifications, etc…) from the team members • Managing firmware-related aspects of production • Managing projects schedule and deadlines • Production & firmware configuration management - Establish and own a firmware release and version-control process: controlled, uniquely identifiable builds with release notes, each version tied to the corresponding electronics revision. |
| Required Qualifications and Skills |
• 5+ years of experience using the C language in embedded systems • 3+ years of experience developing OS-less low-level drivers for microcontrollers • 3+ years of experience managing projects (scope definition, specification, schedule, tests, release) • Strong knowledge of a versioning system (git preferred) • 1+ years of experience with the CMake build system • Demonstrated experience taking firmware from development into production, including release/version control and the production hand-off |
| Language Proficiency |
• Highly proficient in English. • Minimum conversational Japanese for internal communication • Basic Japanese reading and writing skills are preferred. |

• Experience in a leadership role • Experience with Git submodules • Experience with the MISRA C guidelines • Experience with motor control (BLDC motors, PID, FOC) • Python knowledge • STM32 knowledge • Ethernet protocols (TCP, UDP) knowledge • CAN, I2C knowledge • Experience with firmware management supported by PLM systems |
