Job Title Senior Mechanical Engineer - Product Design
Location / Department HQ / Design for Production Group (DPG)
Job Overview Mission:
We design and manufacture advanced robotic systems for remote inspection and maintenance in hazardous industrial environments. Our robots combine precision mechanical systems, embedded electronics, actuators, sensing technologies, and software to enable operators to perform complex inspection and maintenance tasks from a safe distance. Our systems are currently being deployed worldwide in customer trials and commercial inspection projects.
Help design robotic systems that remove people from hazardous inspection and maintenance work. Join a product design team transforming advanced robotic concepts into reliable production-ready products. Current development programs include:
- Long-reach modular robotic manipulators (up to 5 m long with nine articulated joints) for positioning NDT sensors on valuable industrial assets.
- Robotic inspection systems that propel sensors through small-diameter, multi-bend boiler tubes using water propulsion.
- Overhead powerline robotic crawler for inspection and installation of air traffic warning spheres
We are a small, fast-moving product development team where engineers take ownership of complete subsystems and work closely across mechanical, electrical, software and manufacturing disciplines. Strong communication, initiative and sound engineering judgement are essential.
Senior mechanical engineers are expected to independently lead the design of major subsystems while helping define engineering processes and technical direction.

What We Offer:
- International engineering environment
- Flat organizational structure with rapid decision-making
- Continuous opportunities for professional growth and skill development by collaborating with a highly skilled team
- Direct exposure to full-stack robotics (ME, EE, FW, SW, Manufacturing, & Operations)
- Opportunity to own complete robotic subsystems from concept through production and deployment
- A transparent work culture where challenging the status quo isn't just allowed—it's expected.
Key Responsibilities - Design and develop mechanical systems from concept through production.
- Own mechanical subsystems throughout the product lifecycle.
- Perform engineering trade studies balancing performance, manufacturability, reliability and cost.
- Iterate and improve existing product designs.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, firmware, manufacturing and operations teams.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, testing and field deployments.
- Improve engineering processes and product development workflows.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical planning.
Required Qualifications and Skills Basic qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
- CAD Expertise: Strong proficiency using modern parametric CAD software (Onshape experience is a plus).
Core Technical Qualifications:
- Mechanical Design: Experience designing production-ready mechanical parts and assemblies using machined, sheet metal, welded, and purchased components.
- Component Selection: Skilled in selecting and integrating commercial off-the-shelf components while considering performance, manufacturability, availability, and supply chain.
- Production Drawings: Experience producing manufacturing drawings and documentation for externally machined and assembled, sheet metal, welded and additively manufactured components.
- Tolerance Analysis and practical application: Deep understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing with the ability to utilize tolerance stack-up analysis during the design process of complex assemblies.
- Industrial Standards: Experience developing products using controlled engineering documentation, design reviews, revision control, configuration management, and established engineering practices.

We value engineers who improve the engineering system—not just the product. Senior engineers are expected to strengthen design practices, documentation, design reviews, and development processes alongside product development.
Language proficiency Language proficiency:
Professional working proficiency in English, sufficient to communicate fluently in a technical,
international environment.
Conversational Japanese is desirable for day-to-day internal communication.
Basic Japanese reading and writing is helpful but not required.
Preferred Qualifications - Industry Experience: Background in industrial robotics, manipulators, precision machinery, automotive, aerospace, or related high-precision industries.
- PLM & Change Management: Practical experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (e.g., Arena) and formal Engineering Change Order processes.
- System-level thinking: Ability to understand mechanical, electrical, software and manufacturing interactions and make design decisions that consider the complete product.
- Shop-Floor & AIT Experience: Hands-on experience supporting shop-floor production, machining processes, and Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) for complex mechanical systems.
- Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- Metal additive manufacturing
- Advanced simulation (Strength, Thermal, Fluid)
- Adhesive bonding
- Welding
- Composites
- Gear design
- Reverse engineering
- Environmental sealing and waterproof design
Personal Attributes What makes a successful senior engineer on our team:
- Identifies problems before being asked and drives them to completion
- Makes engineering decisions using data, structured analysis and sound engineering judgement.
- Takes ownership of subsystem success beyond individual CAD work
- Clearly communicates engineering trade-offs and recommends decisions
- Challenges assumptions with data and proposes better approaches
- Helps plan technical work and supports the growth of other engineers
- Focuses effort on the work that delivers the greatest impact to the product and team
Note We will do background checks on past experiences.
