Job Title Electrical Engineer / Mid-Level Engineer (Intermediate to Senior Associate)
Department Product Design & Manufacturing
Location HQ
* with possible occasional domestic and international travel.
Job Overview The Electrical Engineer will play a key role in transforming innovative robotic technologies into reliable, production-ready systems for hibot’s advanced inspection robots. This position designs product-grade systems from clear requirements. Rather than refining R&D outputs, it translates the learnings generated by R&D exploration and mock-ups into well-defined requirements, then produces the product design and verifies that the result works as a product, can be manufactured, and is supported by an existing supply chain.
The role involves hands-on electrical design, PCB and harness development, system integration, assembly, validation, and production documentation, while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, manufacturability, and reliability requirements. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams including R&D, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing, the Electrical Engineer will contribute to establishing production standards and enabling efficient transition from development to manufacturing.
The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering and design skills with a proactive, detail-oriented mindset. The role is primarily desk-based design and documentation work: once a design is complete it is executed by others, and the engineer then performs first article inspection, test, and verification. The ability to collaborate effectively in an international, cross-functional environment is essential.
Key Responsibilities - Design and review electrical panels, PCBs and harnesses, with strong consideration compliance with safety and quality standard, design for testability, ease of manufacturing and assembly.
- Assemble and validate PCBs and harnesses
- Create production-ready documentation for PCBs and harnesses, including full system schematics and work instructions.
- Work with the mechanical engineers to design and validate the routing of the harnesses in the robot.
- Work with R&D teams to ensure early-on adoption of production-level standards.
- Specification of systems, sub-systems and components.
Required Qualifications and Skills - Solid knowledge of electronics including (more than 5 years of previous experience):
・ CAN, Ethernet and other relevant communication standards
・ Power electronics
・ Motor control
・ EMC
- Proficiency in Altium Designer, familiarity with Altium365 is appreciated
- Previous experience in the design of simple electrical panels for AC mains handling, including safety mechanisms (breakers, fuses, …)
- Experience working with PLM systems and within a change-management regime, including the feedback loop formed by quality reporting, change requests, and change orders.
- Component selection.
- Firmware programming in C (For testing and validation).
- Experience with compliance work and systematic design reviews, preferably gained in a regulated industry.
Language proficiency Professional working proficiency in English, sufficient to communicate fluently in a technical, international environment.
Minimum conversational Japanese for internal communication
Basic Japanese reading and writing skills are preferred.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) - Specific hands-on experience with ArenaPLM is a plus (general PLM experience is now listed as a required qualification).
- Experience in a high-reliability industry (aerospace, medical, or consumer electronics preferred over robotics), AC safety, motor driver, ethernet and CAN transmission line. PCB / FFC / rigidflex PCB development.
- Exposure to international, cross-functional team collaboration.
Personal Attributes - Detail-oriented and committed to quality, reliability, and safety.
- Proactive and methodical approach to design, documentation, and verification of manufacturing samples.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for assigned tasks.
- Collaborative and communicative across diverse technical and cultural teams.
